Wielki Szyszak

High wheel from the east side

The High wheel ( Pol. Wielki Szyszak, tschech. Vysoke Kolo ) is with 1509 meters the snow Koppe, high Wiesberg and Brunnberg the fourth highest mountain of the Giant Mountains and the highest peak in the western part of the mountain. The border between Poland and the Czech Republic runs over the top.

Location

Right on top is the most visible, dilapidated monument of Kaiser Wilhelm I on the northwestern shoulder, right on the edge of the snow pits the striking former Schneegrube cottage is located ( Schronisko nad Śnieżnymi Kotłami ), which today serves as a television and radio stations as well as a meteorological station. Directly below the south flank is the Martin Baude ( Marti bouda ), one of the traditional mountain chalets of the Giant Mountains. Western - in about 2 km away - is located in a wide area of ​​high moorland the headwaters of the Elbe.

On the south side of Czech (Bohemia ) the mountain falls gradually to Elbgrund ( Labský dul ) from back. On the Polish north side (Silesia ), the High wheel extended, mostly overgrown with lichen steep scree slopes and the ball crashing into the snow pits (Polish Śnieżne Kotły ) with partial 150 -meter-high vertical cliffs on.

Way to the summit

The Polish- Czech Friendship Trail along the main ridge ( ridge trail ) delivers conservation reasons north past the summit. At the Friendship Trail was located 300 meters west of the summit a small branch. This trail is closed since 2009, access is no longer possible.
