The Wild One, also known under the title Real Wild Child, is a rock ' n' roll song that was written for Johnny O'Keefe in 1957 by Johnny Greenan and Dave Owens, saxophonists of the Australian band The Deejays. The DJ Tony Withers is attributed to have helped the song to success by having helped him on the radio airplay. The song is one of the few pieces that was involved in the songwriting O'Keefe and is also the first rock ' n' roll song, which was also placed in the Australian singles charts. The recordings took place in the Festival Studios in Sydney, to the applause of the spectators was added later. In March 1958, the song first appeared on the EP Shakin 'at the Stadium of Johnny O'Keefe. In July 1958, the single version of the song and reached number 20 of the Australian singles chart appeared.
