Wilhelm Hieronymus Pachelbel

Wilhelm Hieronymus Pachelbel ( baptized August 29, 1686 in Erfurt, buried June 6, 1764 in Nuremberg ) was a German composer and organist of the late Baroque. He was the eldest son of the composer Johann Pachelbel.

Life

Pachelbel received his musical education in the first place probably with his father, who worked as an organist in Eisenach and Erfurt, and later in Stuttgart and since 1695 in his hometown of Nuremberg and maintained friendly relations with the Bach family. After stopovers in Fürth and Erfurt Wilhelm Hieronymus came back to Nuremberg. At first he was probably working at the St. Bartholomew Church in Nuremberg suburbs Wöhrd, from 1706 St. Jacob, and then to St. Egidien as an organist. 1719, he was - as already his father until his death in 1706 - organist of the Church of St. Sebald in Nuremberg. He held until his death in 1764 this office.

During his lifetime, was only printed in 1725 in Nuremberg " Musicalische pleasure " was published. In addition, some compositions for harpsichord and organ are obtained from his hand. While his early work is influenced by the music of his father, he approaches in his later work the transitional style between baroque and pre-classical period.
