Wilhelm Hofmeister (automobile designer)

Wilhelm Hofmeister ( born May 19, 1912 in Hagen, † 11 January 1978) was a German automobile designers and from 1955 to 1970 chief designer of BMW.

One of the first projects under his direction was the New Class, a mid-range model, which should save the then- ailing manufacturers. Hofmeister already created with this model, the basic features of the conventional designs to date and the Hofmeister kink as a striking feature in the C-pillar almost all BMW models built since then. His successor at BMW was Paul Bracq, which continued Hofmeister design line almost seamlessly.

Some BMW models at that time were not designed by Hofmeister itself but by external designers. So BMW 503 and BMW 507 come by Albrecht Graf Goertz, and the BMW 3200 CS by Giuseppe Bertone.
