Wilhelm Josef Grailich

William Joseph Grailich ( born February 16, 1829 in Bratislava, † September 13, 1859 in Vienna ) was an Austrian mineralogist.

He studied from 1847 at the Polytechnic Institute and the University of Vienna, where he in 1854 Dr. phil. received his doctorate. Subsequently, he was an apprentice and assistant at the Institute of Physics of the University. In March 1855 he habilitated for crystallography, physics of crystals, general physics and higher mathematics.

In 1856 he became an assistant and as a successor to Gustav Adolf Kenngott Curator - A lecturer at Kk Farm- kind cabinets in Vienna. In 1857 he was A.O. Professor of higher physics. Since 1859 he was a member of the Academy of Sciences in Vienna.

He translated William Hallowes Miller's textbook of crystallography. For fluorescence phenomena in crystals, he delivered a scientific explanation. The Wheatstone vibration apparatus he improved.

In 1910 in Vienna Landstrasse (3rd district) was named the Grailichgasse after him.
