Wilhelm Karl Rust

Karl Wilhelm Rust ( born April 29, 1787 Dessau, † April 18, 1855 ) was a German pianist and organist.

Life

Karl Wilhelm Rust was a son of the violinist and composer Friedrich Wilhelm Rust. He was a child prodigy and has performed publicly at the age of ten years. Rust studied philosophy from 1805 to 1806 in Halle ( Saale). In 1807 he went to Vienna, where he associated with the pianist Dorothea of ​​Ertmann and Maximiliane Brentano, the talented daughter of Antonie Brentano, Beethoven's friend taught. In this way he got to know Beethoven himself, who was very complimentary about Rust's piano playing. About his encounters with the composer he wrote several letters to his relatives Dessauer. From 1819 to 1827 Rust was employed as organist at the Reformed Church in Vienna.

Among his pupils was his nephew Wilhelm Rust.
