Wilhelm Knechtel

Wilhelm Knechtel ( Guillermo Knechtel; * August 13, 1837 in Pihlerbaustellen, † October 22, 1924 in Bucharest ) was a Bohemian gardener and botanist.

Biography

Knechtel occurred after training in Imperial City and Prague in 1860 in the service of Archduke Maximilian von Habsburg. When he was Emperor of Mexico, Knechtel moved its activities also to Mexico, where he designed, among other things, the palace gardens in Maximilian de Chapultepec. From this time he reported vividly in his memoirs. After Maximilian's arrest ( and subsequent execution ) Knechtel returned to Europe, where he was a royal garden director I entered the service of Charles after a brief stint in Lacroma of Romania. He died in 1924 as a recognized roofed with numerous honors Romanian citizens in Bucharest.
