Willard White

Sir Willard Wentworth White ( born October 10, 1946 in Kingston, Jamaica ) is a British bass - baritone of Jamaican origin. He is regarded as the most important British bass - baritone John Shirley - aged Quirk ( born 1931 ) and Bryn Terfel (* 1965).

He studied at the Jamaican School of Music song, then at the Juilliard School in New York City and made his debut at the New York City Opera as Colline in La Bohème. He later took lessons with Otakar Kraus. He was also informed in the master class of Maria Callas.

White sang, among others, the Polyphemus in Acis and Galatea, Nekrotzar in Le Grand Macabre, Mephistopheles in La damnation de Faust, Porgy in Porgy and Bess, Bluebeard in Bluebeard's Castle and Wotan in Das Rheingold and the Valkyrie. On the side of Grace Bumbry sang the role of Ned in Scott Joplin's opera Treemonisha rarely given at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris in spring 2010.

2004 was defeated Willard White knighted ( Knight Bachelor).
