Willem Bartsius

Willem Bartsius (* um 1612 in Enkhuizen, † probably after 1639 ) was a Dutch painter.

Willem Bartsius was a brother of the painter Pieter Potter. About his life little is known. In the late 1620s and early 1630s he was probably active in Leiden. His early style is similar to the work of Pieter Potter and Gerrard Dou. In later years he was based apparently on Pieter Codde and Anthonie Palamedesz. 1634 he was a member of the painters' guild in Alkmaar and formed inter alia Abraham Meyndertsz from. 1636 he lived in Amsterdam. From 1639 all trace of him is lost.

Although only a few works have received, the works cover a wide range of image types. In addition to portraits, Protect and society works, he also painted a number of biblical representations.
