Willem de Fesch

Willem de Fesch (* August 26, 1687 in Alkmaar, † January 3, 1761 in London) was a Dutch violinist and composer of the Baroque.

Life

De Fesch was probably a pupil of Charles Rosier and Alphonse d'Eve. He was 1710-1725 in Amsterdam, among others worked at the Stadsschouwburg and from 1725 to 1731 conductor of the Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp. In 1731 he settled in London. Here was the virtuoso violinist numerous concerts and conducted Handel's orchestra. His style was influenced by Vivaldi and Handel, and is marked by the transition of the Baroque to Rococo.

Willem de Fesch was married to the daughter of his teacher Charles Rosier, the singer Maria Anna Rosier since 1711. His compositions include oratorios, orchestral and chamber music.
