Willi Kalender

Alfred Willi Calendar ( born August 1, 1949 in Thorr ) is a German physicist. He is considered the inventor of spiral computed tomography.

Life and work

Calendar studied mathematics and physics in Bonn and Medical Physics at the University of Wisconsin, where he received his doctorate in 1979. He habilitated in 1988 in Tübingen. From 1976 to 1995, he worked at Siemens AG in Erlangen, since he holds the Chair of Medical Physics at the Friedrich- Alexander -University Erlangen -Nuremberg. Since 1991, also taught the calendar as an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin and from 1993 to 1995 as a lecturer at the Technical University of Munich. He is a member of the "Board of Directors" of the American Society of Medical Physics. He is also Managing Director of PET Net GmbH, which manufactures radiopharmaceuticals for positron emission tomography. Currently holds 15 patents calendar, he has published over 700 scientific papers.

Honors

Calendar was, inter alia, awarded by the European Science Foundation and the European Latsis Prize. In 2008 he received the X-ray plate of Remscheid. In 2009 he and an honorary doctorate by the Bavarian Society of Radiology was awarded the Medal Grashey of the RWTH Aachen. He is a member of the Leopoldina Also since 2009.
