William Bowie (engineer)
William Bowie (* May 6, 1872 in Annapolis Junction ( Maryland); † August 28, 1940 in Washington, DC) was an American surveyor, who worked in the National Survey of the Coast & Geodetic Survey.
On it goes back, among other things, the Bowie method of economic calculation of very large surveying networks back, as well as a method of reducing severity ( Bowie reduction) in connection with the theoretical potential indirect effect.
The William Bowie Medal, the highest award of the American Geophysical Union, was named after him.
