William de Braose, 3rd Lord of Bramber

William de Braose, 3rd Baron of Bramber (c. 1100/1112, † 1192 ) was an Anglo-Norman nobleman. He was the son of Philip de Braose and AENOR of Totnes, the daughter of Judhael de Totnes. He married in 1148 to Bertha de Gloucester (c. 1130), a daughter of Miles of Gloucester and Sybil de Neufmarché.

After the death of his father in the 1130er years, he became Baron of Bramber and other possessions in Sussex, Totnes in Devon and Radnor and Builth Castle in the Welsh Marches. He confirmed the gifts of his father at the Abbey of St Florent in Anjou and made their own donations to the abbey Sele in Sussex. During the Civil War he was part of the escort that would take 1139 Empress Maud after their landing in England and the subsequent defeat of Arundel to her half-brother Robert of Gloucester to Bristol. William was until the Treaty of Wallingford, a loyal supporter of King Stephen. From 1153 he was often in the wake of Henry II. He is mentioned in 1158 and 1164 in the aftermath, accompanied the King 1161/62 to France and 1171/72 in Ireland. To 1155 he inherited from his mother half of Barnstaple in Devon and paid for a fee of 1,000 marks.

His marriage brought William in 1166 a rich heritage, after all four brothers of his wife had died at a young age and without heirs. His wife was with her sister Margaret heiress of the extensive possessions of their parents, Bertha received Brecon, Abergavenny and Hay Castle. Through this legacy William Lord was a contiguous land holdings in the central Welsh Marches and was one of the most powerful Marcher Lords. His daughters were well married, especially Sibilla to the Earl of Derby. William was 1174/75 Sheriff of Hereford, but after carried out by his son in 1175 Massacre of Abergavenny he lost the favor of the king and withdrew presumably back to his estates in Sussex.
