William de Raley

William Raleigh also William de Raley or Ralegh († September 1, 1250 in Tours ) was a lawyer and bishop of Norwich and Winchester.

He began his career as a clerk with the court and then went on to 1234 for Chief Justice of King's Bench. But he was not given the title of General Counsel. During this time he was one of the advisers of Henry III. of England.

An appointment as Bishop of Lichfield, he did not accept. His appointment as Bishop of Norwich in 1239 he gave up the office of the court.

In 1241 he was elected Bishop of Winchester. He accepted the office, against the wishes of the king, it refused to vote for election. This was only in September 1243 issued by Pope Innocent IV. During this time he was forced to flee to France. The possessions of the diocese were recovered. It was not until 1244 he was able to take the office of bishop.

He died on September 1, 1250 on a trip abroad.
