William Esson

William Esson (* 1838 in Dundee, Scotland, † August 28 1916 in Abingdon ( Oxfordshire ), England ) was a British mathematician.

Life and work

William Esson attended Inverness Royal Academy and Celtenham Grammer School. From 1855 studied at the University of Oxford and graduated in 1864, MA

1864/66, he published his pioneering work Transactions on mathematical chemistry, on which he worked with Augustus George Vernon Harcourt ( 1834-1919 ). In 1866 he became a member of the London Mathematical Society and on June 3, 1869 Fellow of the Royal Society.

After Professor James Joseph Sylvester was ill, he was ao 1894 Professor and tidy after his death in 1897 Professor of Geometry and Savilian Professor of Geometry at Oxford University.
