William G. Stahlnecker

William Griggs Stahlecker ( born June 20, 1849 in Auburn, New York, † March 26, 1902 in Yonkers, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1885 and 1893 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Griggs Stahlecker was born about 16 months after the end of the Mexican - American War in Auburn. The Stahlecker family then moved to the then still independent city of Brooklyn and later to New York City. William pursued an academic career and attended the New York University in New York City. He studied law, was admitted to the bar and began to practice. In addition, he also went to commercial transactions. He was a member of the New York Produce Exchange. In 1880 he moved to Yonkers. Between 1884 and 1886 he was mayor of Yonkers. He took in June 1884 as a delegate to the Democratic State Convention in Saratoga in part and in the same year at the Democratic National Convention.

In the congressional elections of 1884 he became a Democrat in the 14th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Lewis Beach on March 4, 1885.
