William H. Lamport

William Henry Lamport ( born May 27, 1811 in Brunswick, New York, † July 21, 1891 in Canandaigua, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1871 and 1875 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Henry Lamport was born a year before the outbreak of the British - American War in Rensselaer County. The family moved in 1826 by Gorham in Ontario County. He attended public schools. Then he went to agricultural activities. He was supervisor in 1848 and 1849 Gorham. Between 1850 and 1853 he held the post of sheriff in Ontario County. He sat in 1854 in the New York State Assembly. In 1864 he moved to Canandaigua. He was 1866 and 1867 President of the Village of Canandaigua. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1870 for the 42nd Congress Lamport in the 25th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of William H. Kelsey on March 4, 1871. In 1872 he stood as a candidate in the 26th electoral district of New York for the 43rd Congress. After a successful election, he entered on March 4, 1873, the successor of Milo Goodrich. Since he gave up for reelection in 1874, he retired after March 3, 1875 from the Congress.

He returned to Canandaigua, where he died on 21 July 1891. His body was then buried at the West Avenue Cemetery.
