William Hamilton (athlete)

William Hamilton ( William Frank " Bill" Hamilton, * 1884, † after 1908) was an American sprinter who was active at the beginning of the 20th century.

His success was the year 1908. He won

  • At the national championships over 100 y ( 10.2 s ) and the runner-up over 220 y.
  • An Olympic gold medal at the Games in London in 1908 as a member of only in London discharged Olympic relay (200 m/200 m/400 m/800 m), in the occupation of Hamilton as first runner, Nate Cartmell, John Taylor and Mel Sheppard 3: 29.4 min clear ( silver in 3:32,4 min ) and the Hungarian team ( bronze in 3:32,5 min) lay before the German.

Even in the single race in the 100 and 200 meters, he went to the start. The flow in the 100 meters, he won, then went to but no longer. About 200 meters he resigned as second in the semifinals, as only the winners of the four semi-final runs came in the finals.

In the post-Olympic year he entered again in to the U.S. championships and was over 100 y fourth.
