William Patterson (New York)

William Patterson ( born June 4, 1789 in Londonderry, Rockingham County, New Hampshire; † August 14, 1838 in Warsaw, New York ) was an American politician. In the years 1837 and 1838 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Patterson was the older brother of Congressman and Lieutenant Governor of New York, George Washington Patterson (1799-1879), and an uncle of Augustus Frank (1826-1895), who was also a congressman from New York. He attended the common schools. In 1815 he moved to Rensselaerville, New York, and a year later on to Lyons, where he worked in the craft. Since 1822, he lived on a farm near Warsaw in Wyoming County. He worked in agriculture. In 1837 he moved directly into the city Warsaw, where he held several local offices.

Politically, Patterson joined the Whig party to. In the congressional elections of 1836, he became the 29th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of George W. Lay on March 4, 1837. This mandate he was able to exercise until his death on 14 August 1838.
