William Peel, 3rd Earl Peel

William James Robert Peel, 3rd Earl Peel, GCVO, PC ( born October 3, 1947) is a British nobleman who currently holds the office of Lord Chamberlain of the Household.

Life

Peel first attended Ampleforth College, then spent a semester at the University of Tours in France, before studying at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester completed. In 1973, he married Veronica Naomi Timpson. From the marriage, which ended in divorce in 1987, two children, Ashton Peel, Viscount Clanfield ( b. 1976 ) and Lady Iona Peel originate (* 1978).

Since 1989, he is in second marriage with the Honourable (the Honourable ) Charlotte Clementine Soames, a daughter of Lord Soames and his wife, Mary, married. His wife is a granddaughter of Sir Winston Churchill. From this marriage the daughter of Lady Antonia Peel stems (* 1991).

Public offices

1969 Peel inherited his father's earldom. Since then, he sits in the House of Lords as a party independent. After the reform of the chamber in 1999, he was elected as a member of the Upper House.

From 1993 to 2006, the Earl was a member of the Advisory Board of Prince Charles, which is responsible for the Duchy of Cornwall. He also was a board member of various British nature conservation organizations.

Since October 2006, Earl Peel, Lord Chamberlain of the Household, so senior official of the British court. The function corresponds to that of the Chamberlain or Lord Chamberlain. They must be distinguished from the office of Lord Great Chamberlain, who is considered one of the Great Officers of State, a state official. It is the successor of Richard Luce, Baron Luce. Since November 2006, the Earl Member of the Privy Council.
