Earl Peel

Earl Peel is a British peerage in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, named after the family Peel, from which come a number of known politicians of the United Kingdom.

Seat of the family is Eelmire House in Ripon, North Yorkshire.

Award

The title was in 1929 for William Wellesley Peel, 2nd Viscount Peel, created, which was to have included Secretary of State for India and Lord Privy Seal. His father, a son of conservative Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel, 2nd Baronet of Clanfield, had been elevated to Viscount in 1895, after he had previously been more than ten years Speaker of the House of Commons.

Subordinate title

Subordinate items are Viscount Peel ( created 1895), of Sandy in the County of Bedford, and Viscount Clanfield ( created 1929), of Clanfield in the County of Southampton. Both subordinate titles are also included in the Peerage of the United Kingdom.

The eldest son of the Earl respective leads the courtesy title Viscount Clanfield.

In addition, the baronetcy of Clanfield is now ( created in 1800 ) in the Baronetage of Great Britain connected to the earldom.
