William Ruto

William Samoei Arap Ruto Kipchirchir ( born December 21, 1966 in Kamagut ) is a Kenyan politician and member of the Kalenjin.

Life

Political career

After a degree in botany and zoology at the University of Nairobi Ruto supported in the presidential election of 1992, Daniel arap Moi. Ruto was a member of the Kenya African National Union (KANU ). He applied in 2006 to the presidential nomination of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM ), but ended up with the code only in third place.

From 2008 to 2010 he was Agriculture Minister, then Minister of Education under Prime Minister Raila Odinga. He represented along with former President Daniel arap Moi from the No camp in the constitutional referendum of 4 August 2010, but lost the battle for votes.

On April 9, 2013, was sworn in as Kenya's Vice-President.

Indictments of the International Criminal Court

On 8 March 2011 has been confirmed by the Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court summons for William Ruto. She confirmed on 24 January 2012, the indictment, which Ruto have incited to murder, expulsion and persecution. According to the indictment of the ICC, were killed over 1,100 people, in the political unrest in Kenya 2007 /2008 and forcibly displaced over half a million people.

On 10 September 2013, the main method in the presence of Ruto was opened in The Hague. Because of the attack on the Westgate Shopping Center in Nairobi on September 23, 2013, the process was temporarily interrupted and resumed on 2 October 2013.
