William Sidney Mount

William Sidney Mount (* November 26, 1807 in Setauket, Long Iceland, † November 19, 1868 ) was an American painter of the 19th century. He was primarily a portrait painter and belonged to the flow of the Hudson River School.

Life and work

William Sidney Mount was born 1807 in Setauket on Long Iceland. He went from 1825 to 1827 with his brother Henry Mount, a sentry - painter, in New York City in the apprenticeship. From 1826, he studied at the National Academy of Design, and from 1829 he worked as a portrait painter in New York. In 1931 he became an associate member and a year later a full member of the National Academy.

In 1836 he moved to Stony Brook on Long Iceland and remained there until his death in 1868, where he devoted himself as a painter of rural scenes of his homeland.
