William Smith, 4th Viscount Hambleden

Harry William Herbert Smith, 4th Viscount Hambleden ( born April 2, 1930; † August 2, 2012 in Reno, Nevada ) was a British peer and politician ( Conservative Party ).

Life and career

Smith was Patricia Herbert (1904-1994) was born on 2 April 1930, the son of William Henry Smith, 3rd Viscount Hambleden ( 1903-1948 ) and his wife Lady. His mother was Lady of the Bedchamber to the Queen Mother. His father was a descendant of the founder of the books and magazine chain WH Smith.

He attended Eton College.

In May 2003, the family property was for sale. The residence of Smith and his second wife was exempt.

Membership in the House of Lords

After the death of his father in 1948 he inherited the title of Viscount Hambleden and then the associated seat in the House of Lords. This he took a first time on 23 July 1952. According to the Hansard, he reported there never to speak.

Family

Smith was married on February 21, 1955 Donna Maria Carmela Attolico di Adelfa, the daughter of Bernardo di Attolico Adelfa. They divorced in 1988. Together they have five sons: William Henry ( b. 1955 ), Bernardo James ( b. 1957 ), David Alexander (* 1959), Nicolas Robin Bartolomeo ( born 1960 ) and Lorenzo Patrick Harold ( * 1962).

On August 28, 1988, he married Lesley Watson. They lived in Dunsaller, Thorverton, Devon (as of 2003).

Most recently, he was suffering from cancer. Smith died on August 2, 2012 in Reno at the age of 82 years. His eldest son inherited the title of Viscount Hambleden.
