William Sydney Wilson

William Sydney Wilson ( born November 7, 1816 in Snow Hill, Worcester County, Maryland, † November 3, 1862 ) was an American politician (Democratic Party). He was the son of Congressman Ephraim King Wilson (1771-1834) and brother of U.S. Senator Ephraim King Wilson ( 1821-1891 ).

William was from 1858 to 1859 and again from 1860 to 1861 a member of the State Legislature of Mississippi. He also represented those State in 1860 at the Democratic National Convention. After the secession of 1861, he was elected to the Provisional Konföderiertenkongress, but resigned after the first meeting on March 16, 1861. As the American Civil War broke out, he served in the Confederate Army with the rank of Major. At the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862, he was mortally wounded and died on 3 November 1862. Subsequently, he was buried in the Makemie Memorial Presbyterian Church Yard in Snow Hill.
