Willie de Wit

Willie DeWitt ( born June 13, 1961 in Three Hills, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian boxer.

Career

Amateur

1981 Dewitt was the first time Canadian champion in the heavyweight ( 81 kg ) and fought in one of his first international missions against the Meitster the GDR Jürgen Fanghänel, but what he lost. Also in 1982 he won the Canadian Championships in the newly established Super Heavyweight ( 91 kg ). At the World Championships In 1982, DeWitt, Klaus- Dieter Schmid, East Germany, however, had to give Germany, beaten in the quarterfinals Peter Hussing. In the same year he won the Commonwealth Games.

1983 DeWitt moved back into the heavyweight ( 91kg - ) and won the Canadian title in this weight class. In the same year he also won the North American Championships, beating at a Länderkampf Henry Tillman by KO in the first round. The same thing he succeeded at a tournament in 1984.

Professional

As a professional Dewitt had in his third fight for the first time to the ground. In this fight, but he was still able to achieve a draw after six rounds. In his twelfth professional fight, he finally won the Canadian heavyweight title, which position he would hold until the end of his career. In his sixteenth fight he suffered against the Americans Bert Cooper, the only defeat in his pro career.
