Willis Goldbeck

Willis Goldbeck (* October 24, 1898 New York, † September 17, 1979 Sag Harbor, New York) was an American screenwriter and film director.

Life

He first worked as a journalist. From 1920 he began to work as a screenwriter. One of his early works, Peter Pan ( 1924), whose screenplay he wrote. Around 1925, he was taken by Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer ( MGM) under contract. For MGM in 1938, he wrote the screenplay Young Dr. Kildare. The story was expanded to series Dr. Kildare, for Goldbeck wrote most of the episodes. In some he also self- directed.

Although Goldbeck also in so many other films directed, he decided to focus mainly on screenwriting. In 1951 he directed in Ten Tall Men, a film in which, among other things played Burt Lancaster, Jody Lawrance, Gilbert Roland and Kieron Moore. From 1955 Goldbeck appeared as a film producer. 1962, at the age of 64 years, Goldbeck directed his last film, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance with the cast Lee Marvin, John Wayne and James Stewart ( protagonist lawyer Ransom Stoddard ), for the Willis Goldbeck even the screenplay based on the story by Dorothy M. Johnson wrote and in which led John Ford directed.
