Gilbert Roland

Gilbert Roland, actually Luis Antonio Damaso de Alonso, ( born December 11, 1905 in Ciudad Juárez in Mexico; † 15 May 1994, Beverly Hills, California ) was an American film actor.

Life

Roland was born in 1905 in Mexico; he moved with his family during the Mexican Revolution in 1911 in the United States. His first acting experiences made ​​with Roland 13 years. After he was discovered by the film, he was due to its Mediterranean appearance, a mixture of macho image and romantic traits, and his athletic skills, is fast becoming a performer in adventurous silent films. The transition to talkies succeeded effortlessly. During the Second World War he served in the Army Air Corps and took after his return to the Hollywood career back on. His career spanned phases as a Latin lover, as Cisco Kid in a six-part film series, Mexican bandits in B- films as a character actor after the war and leading roles in adventure films and spaghetti westerns.

Roland married in 1941 to actress Constance Bennett his first wife. From this 1946 divorced 2 children come. His stage name he chose on the basis of his favorite stars Ruth Roland and John Gilbert.
