The Dove is a U.S. Filmmelodram by Roland West from 1927, considered to be partially lost.

Action

Dolores, called " The Dove " ("The Dove" ) is in love with the young Caballero Johnny Powell and on the other hand threatened by the Don José María y Sandoval. This organized the abduction of his rival, whereupon Dolores would kill himself rather than live with Don José. Fortunately, Johnny manages to escape and save Dolores.

Background and Awards

Gilbert Roland is seen in one of his first role. The camera work by Oliver T. Marsh was outstanding for its time and changed from the usually sharp, clear images to soft- focused images in the romantic close-ups, both the composition and the lighting was extraordinary. In a small supporting role Olga Baclanova can be seen. From the film, there are only four of nine rolls of film in the archives of the Library of Congress.

For the enormous built of brick backdrop art director William Cameron Menzies received as well as for "Best Production Design " in the movie lightning ( Tempest ) on the first Oscar ceremony in 1929 in each case an Oscar.
