William Cameron Menzies

William Cameron Menzies ( born July 29, 1896 in New Haven, Connecticut, USA, † March 5, in Beverly Hills, California, USA, 1957) was an American film director, producer, screenwriter and film architect, where for the equipment and he the art department was responsible.

Life

Particularly well known he was through his work in The Thief of Bagdad, where he worked as a decorator for the special effects, the decor and costumes. In this field, he was regarded in the 1930s as a master of his craft. As a director he made in 1936 of H. G. Wells adaptation Things to Come one of the milestones of science fiction cinema. William Cameron Menzies was the first, under the production Gone with the Wind in 1937 received the designation "Production Designer".

1929 Menzies was awarded the Oscar. In 1940 he was awarded at the Oscars with the Honorary Award.
