Windows Aero

Windows Aero is a graphical user interface and a skin for the Microsoft Windows operating system. Windows Aero is included in most editions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 and enabled by default. In Windows Server 2008 it is also included, is there but not enabled by default. The word Aero is a backronym of Authentic, Energetic, Reflective, Open.

Windows Aero user interface replaces the previous Luna and is characterized by semi-transparent window frames and animations by example in minimizing the window. Aero provides the user with freely scalable application window with shadows. With the help of "Windows Flip 3D ," an element of Aero, which is accessed with the key combination Windows Tab application windows of all open applications when fast switching between applications can be displayed. The hardware -accelerated display requires a compatible graphics card and compatible drivers. Windows Aero is divided into Aero Basic, which has only design changes compared to Windows XP, and in which the above new features are included in Aero Glass. In Windows 8 's Aero interface is still included, but without Aero Glass. The features Aero Shake and Aero Peek are also listed.

Requirements

AeroBASIC

This mode provides only the new window design without transparency effect and is currently in Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows 7 Starter and Windows 7 Home Basic, the standard design. In Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate, Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate, it is also integrated as an alternative to Aero Glass.   • Windows XP Driver ( WDM), (Vista graphics driver is recommended)
  • At least 32 MB video memory
  • Support a color depth of at least 32 bits per pixel

  • A graphics card with Accelerated Graphics Port, PCI, or PCI Express

Aero Basic but also runs on much less powerful computers.

Aero Glass

Aero Glass is working with 3D graphics, animation and visual effects (eg transparency). The following requirements must be met:

Meets the requirements of the hardware, if the rating is a performance index of at least 3.0 is achieved.

Supported video chipsets:

  • AMD: all ATI Radeon graphics chipsets from the X- series and the 9000 series cards from Radeon 9600
  • Intel: GMA 950, 965, 3000, X3000, X3100, X3500 and up.
  • Matrox: From chipset from the M - series graphics cards.
  • Nvidia: all GeForce chipsets from the GeForce FX series. Motherboard with Nvidia nForce4 chipsets up because here corresponds to the integrated graphics, the Nvidia GeForce 6 series.
  • S3 Graphics: all chipsets Chrome Series
  • XGI: all chipsets Volari series with the exception of the V3 and its derivatives V3XE and XP5

In Windows 8, the Glass- effects have been largely removed.
