Windows Live OneCare

Windows Live OneCare ( known as Windows OneCare Live before) was a -Microsoft system software for hedging and optimizing the operating system Microsoft Windows. The software was paid for, the license for this purpose had to be renewed annually.

Announcement

On November 18, 2008, Microsoft announced that Windows Live OneCare is to be replaced by a free, developed for end security solution that was developed under the code name "Morro". Meanwhile the name of the successor has been officially announced and is Microsoft Security Essentials. According to Microsoft, this is to provide some basic protection for Windows computers and is available free of charge on 29 September 2009.

History

Windows OneCare 1.0 reached the beta phase in summer 2005. Was offered on 31 March 2006 for sale. The beta version of Windows Live OneCare 1.5 was released in October 2006 by Microsoft. Version 1.5 was finalized on November 16, 2007.

Microsoft acquired Komoku on 20 March 2008 and integrated security technologies in Windows Live OneCare.

Windows Live OneCare 2.5 Final was released on 3 July 2008, also a server edition followed on the same day.

After introducing the successor product Microsoft Security Essentials to stop selling Windows Live OneCare in October 2009 has been set worldwide product support ended on 11 April 2011.

Functions

Windows Live OneCare currently contains a built-in anti -virus solution, a firewall, a backup solution (backup ) and a tuning solution. Protection against Malware is integrated in OneCare, Windows Defender, which is also downloadable for free. It should also be added to a registry cleaner, but the benefit was so small that it was decided against the function.

Version 2 offers functions for managing multiple computers and networks, sharing printers, optimizing the system test, an improved backup and backing up photos on the Internet.

The goal of Windows Live OneCare was to design a simple security solution for end users and has a very minimalist surface so as not to confuse the user.

Compatibility

Version 1.5 of OneCare is only compatible with 32- bit versions of Windows XP and Vista. Only in version 2.5 is a 64 -bit version was released for Windows Server 2008. No version of OneCare will start in Safe Mode.
