Witness (human rights group)

Witness ( v. English to witness, to experience something ',' something testify ') is a US-based human rights organization based in Brooklyn, New York City. It was founded in 1992 by Peter Gabriel, supported by Human Rights First. The aim of the organization is to use authentic video recordings for detecting and denouncing human rights abuses worldwide. Currently working with Witness 29 activists, which has a budget of five million dollars. 2007, a portal was created to upload videos with human rights violations anonymously on The Hub. The Witness activist Bukeni Waruzi for example, has six years collected video about Congolese children who were forcibly recruited as soldiers. It should be included in the trial of Thomas Lubanga at the International Criminal Court, the first trial in the ICC at all.
