Witold Maliszewski

Witold Maliszewski ( born July 8, 1873 in Mohyliw - Podilskyj; † 18 July 1939 Zalesie Stare Babice ) was a Polish composer and music educator.

Maliszewski studied in Saint Petersburg in Nikolai Rimsky- Korsakov and ran from 1908 to 1921 the Conservatory of Odessa, which he had founded. Then he taught until 1925 and from 1931 composition at the Conservatory in Warsaw. From 1925 to 1927 he headed the Fryderyk Chopin Music School. His most famous student was Witold Lutosławski.

Maliszewski has composed five symphonies, an orchestral fantasy, a piano concerto (1938 ), a suite for cello and orchestra, chamber music, a Missa Pontificalis and a Requiem (both 1930).

His students included Witold Lutoslawski, Mykola Vilinsky, Bolesław Woytowicz, Feliks Roderyk Łabuński and Feliks Rybicki.
