Władysław Podkowiński

Władysław Podkowiński alias Andrzej Ansgary ( born February 4, 1866 in Warsaw, † January 5, 1895 ) was a Polish painter and draftsman.

Life

Podkowiński studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, among others with Wojciech Gerson and Antoni Kamieński, then at the Academy of St. Petersburg. After a one year stay in Paris, he approached the Impressionism and is considered a forerunner of the Polish Impressionism, which was transformed against his life in symbolism. He painted mainly landscapes, portraits and symbolic images. As his most famous image is considered " Szał uniesień " ( " In the madness of ecstasy " ) in the National Museum Krakow.
