Wojciech Gerson

Wojciech Gerson ( born July 1, 1831 in Warsaw, † February 25, 1901 ) was a Polish painter and art professor.

Life

Gerson studied painting at the Warsaw and St. Petersburg Academy of Art, and then in Paris under Leon Cogniet.

In 1858 he returned to Warsaw and became an art teacher. Among his students: Kazimierz Alchimowicz, Anna Bilinska, Ludomir Benedyktowicz, Józef Chełmoński, Waclaw Chodkowski, Eligiusz Neviadomski, Władysław Podkowiński Jan Stanisławski, Władysław Slewinski, Józef Pankiewicz, Alfred von Kowalski - Wierusz and Leon Wyczółkowski.

Gerson painted mostly cities and mountainous landscapes and history paintings.

Wojciech Gerson was 1898-1901 elected Chairman of the Quorum of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Warsaw Trinity Church. He was buried in the Warsaw Evangelical-Augsburg Cemetery.
