Wojnowo, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship

Wojnowo ( German Eckert village) is a village with about 230 inhabitants in the municipality Ruciane -Nida, powiat Piski, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland.

Geography

The village is located northeast of jezioro Duś ( Drusensee ) on the edge of Piska ( Puszcza Piska ) in the historical region East Prussia. It is located five kilometers north-west of Ruciane -Nida and 17 kilometers southwest of Mikołajki.

History

Eckert village was one of the eleven settlements of the Russian Orthodox sect of Old Believers. The local church belonged to the subgroup of the so-called Phil Ipponen. The Phil Ipponen pursued in the Russian Empire could be due to the liberal Prussian religious laws in East Prussia, especially in Masuria, down. The end of World War II meant the end for the philipponische community. After the invasion of the Red Army, the village was placed under Polish administration. By 1945, the town belonged to the district Sensburg.

Attractions

Wojnowo is known for its Built around 1840 Orthodox Church. It is a timber which is distinguished by its Russian origins and style of the East Prussian church buildings.

The former convent is located on the shores of Lake Druze. The monastery was founded in 1847 and is next to a church even from old houses that are on the lakeshore. Behind the church there is an Orthodox cemetery with typical wooden crosses. This was renovated in the summer of 2008 by volunteers from Germany and Poland. It is also a circular hiking trail was created from the monastery to the Altgläubigenstätten of 17 km in length.
