Wolbodo

Wolbodo (also Volbodo, Fulmodo, Vilpodo ) ( † April 21, 1021 ) was from 1018 to 1021 Bishop of Liege. He is venerated as a saint.

Life

He came from Flanders, and was educated at the cathedral school in Utrecht. After that he was there himself Scholaster. He was provost of St. Martin in Utrecht. Later he was a member of the court orchestra of Henry II. This transferred the bishopric of Liege on Wolbodo.

In his time the Church of St. James Monastery in Liege has been completed. He founded the monastery of St. Lawrence. He also sought to reform the monastery Lobbes. He was particularly striving to veneration of the saints. Even as he has Domgeistllicher 1000 can produce a Psalter, which also contained a prayer to all the saints who were venerated in the diocese. As bishop, he has arranged later that this Psalter should be used in the worship of all communities. In the Diocese Calendar all holidays were performed by saints.

His life was portrayed as a particularly pious and charitable. He was buried in the St. Lorenz Church. After his death he was revered as a saint. His feast day is 21 April. There is a Life of Saint Reiner of St. Lawrence from around 1182nd occasion was a dispute about the origins of the monastery of St. Lawrence in Liege.
