Wolfe Island (Ontario)

Wolfe Iceland is an island in the Canadian province of Ontario. It is located in Kingston at the outflow of Lake Ontario in the St. Lawrence River and has an area of 124 km ² the largest island in the Thousand Islands. Wolfe Iceland belongs to the Frontenac County, together with Iceland and Howe Simcoe Iceland makes them the community Frontenac Islands. Largest town is Marysville. Is named the island after the British General James Wolfe.

The island is about 29 km long. The width varies from a few hundred meters up to 9 km. The population is around 1200; but as the island is a popular tourist destination, this number can triple in the summer months. Wolfe Iceland can be reached by ferry from either Kingston or Cape Vincent in the neighboring U.S. state of New York.

In addition, Wolfe Iceland is known as an important resting place for migratory birds.
