Wolffia arrhiza

Wolffia is a genus of duckweed plants ( Lemnoideae ).

Description

The sprout limbs of the plants are at the water surface or under are free flutend. They are symmetrical, spherical, ovoid or boat -shaped, individually or in pairs hang together. Your top is green, green to their bottom transparent; they are never reddish. It is a basal cavity present, are produced in the daughter - sprout limbs. This cavity is surrounded at its base by a scale. Veins and roots are missing. Daughter - rung members are connected to the mother - offspring links caused by a short, not visible stalk.

The flowering stems on the top of a cavity near the center line. This cavity is also not surrounded by a scale. The ovary has an ovule. One stamen is zweikammerig. One seed is almost smooth.

Occurrence

The genus is nearly cosmopolitan spread.

System

The genus was first described in 1844 by Wolffia Matthias Jacob Schleiden. It includes eleven species.
