Wolfgang Achtner

Wolfgang Achtner ( * 1957 in Weyer ( Villmar ), district Limburg ) is a German theologian. He is considered a forerunner of the dialogue between science and religion in Germany.

Life

Achtner dealt during his study of theology at the universities of Mainz, Göttingen and Heidelberg, with the areas of Systematic Theology and the Old Testament. His dissertation focused on the dialogue between science and religion in the work of the Scottish theologian Thomas F. Torrance. After his PhD, he was awarded a research scholarship for one year at the University of Heidelberg. During this time he translated his work dimensions of time ... in the English language.

During his time as pastor of a church in Mainz Achtner earned another master's degree in mathematics. During his sabbatical in the years 1999 to 2000 he was at Princeton Theological Seninar the Presbyterian Church ( USA) in Princeton (New Jersey). Since 2000 Achtner is pastor of the Protestant Student Community at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and lecturer. At the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, he is also Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at the Faculty of Protestant Theology.

Achtner won a scholarship to The John Templeton Seminars on Science and Christianity. He is a member of the Evangelical Academy Arnoldshain in Arnoldshain in the Taunus.
