Wolfgang Bibel

Wolfgang Leonhard Bible ( born October 28, 1938 in Nuremberg, Germany) is a German computer scientist who was among the founders of the area of artificial intelligence in Germany and Europe. Founding President of the European Organization for Artificial Intelligence (European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence, ECCAI ). His scientific contributions include the development of his Konnektionsmethode that enables computers to draw correct logical conclusions in a very compact manner.

Career

Wolfgang Bible was born in Nuremberg, grew up there and went through high school to school. In the period from 1944 to 1947, he was hospitalized war-related eviction after Georgensgmuend. He began in 1958 to study physics at the University of Erlangen, where he graduated in 1961 his bachelor's degree. His main studies, he completed until 1962 at the University of Heidelberg until 1964 at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich, where he reached the diploma in mathematics. After that, he was a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Physics and Astrophysics in Munich, at the University of Cologne and the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich, where he received his doctorate in 1968 under the supervision of Professor Kurt Schütte in mathematical logic.

In the period 1969-1987 he was a research assistant / senior lecturer in the Department of computer science at the Technical University of Munich. During this period he had a visiting professor at Wayne State University, Detroit, USA (1970-1971), the University of the Saarland (1975 ), the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich ( 1975-1976 ), the University of Karlsruhe ( 1978-1979 ), the University of Rome (1983 ), Duke University, Durham NC, USA (1985 ) and the Technical University of Darmstadt ( 1985-1986).

In the period from 1987 to 1988 he was a professor at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. 1988-2004 he was a C4 professor of computer science at the Technical University of Darmstadt and at the same time since 1989 Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia. Since 2004 he has retired.

He has published over 250 scientific publications, including 20 books, to the areas of artificial intelligence and cognitive sciences ( Intellectics ).

Bible is married and has three children.
