Wolfgang Brendel

Wolfgang Brendel ( born October 20, 1947 in Munich) is a German opera singer in the vocal range baritone.

Life

Brendel was raised in Wiesbaden, where he first took parallel to education singing lessons with Rolff Sartorius. In 1971, he debuted on the Palatinate Theatre in Kaiserslautern as Guglielmo in Così fan tutte. He also sang the role of Giorgio Germont in La Traviata. He was at that time the youngest singer in this role in the German-speaking countries. This was followed by 15 years in fixed engagement at the State Opera in Munich, where he was appointed in 1977, the youngest opera singer. His repertoire also the buffo parts of the operetta include not only the great roles in his field.

Brendel is a regular guest at all major opera houses in the world, next to 2011 he taught as a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. In 1997 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany
