Wolfgang Perner
Wolfgang Perner ( born September 17, 1967 in Ramsau am Dachstein ) is a former Austrian biathlete.
After an apprenticeship as a cook and waiter, Wolfgang Perner focused during his military service in the winter triathlon and is a member of the Austrian Ski Federation squad, since 1992 member of the Austrian biathlon national team since 1990. Although he could not qualify for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, he creates immediately after the Games with a third place at the Holmenkollen and his first World Cup victory over 20km in Novosibirsk international breakthrough. Overall, Wolfgang Perner met (including season 2003/ 04) nine titles at the Military World Championships and seven World Cup victories, including five in team competitions. His greatest success is in his third Olympic participation ( after 1994 and 1998), the third place at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the first Olympic biathlon medal for Austria.
After an unannounced doping raid on the house of the Austrian biathlon at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin traveled Perner and Wolfgang Rottmann from his colleague rushed. Both were excluded from the red-white- red Olympic Team. However, doping was not detected the athletes. In March 2006 he announced his final retirement from competitive sport. In April 2007, Perner and Rottmann and four Austrian skiers by the International Olympic Committee (IOC ) were excluded for life from Olympic Games. All were considered by the IOC as converted to have jointly used doping agents. Justification for the harsh sentence: " These cases go further than simple possession of prohibited substances and methods, and are clear examples of cases in which a network, athletes included, common cause made to manipulate blood and exert doping practices. " Your results of Turin were deleted. On 30 May 2007 was the independent disciplinary committee of the Austrian Ski Federation that Wolfgang Perner " blood doping has followed." On 17 July 2007 the Austrian Ski Perner concluded from life.
