Wolfgang Schäfer

Wolfgang Schäfer ( born April 7, 1945 in Staufen im Breisgau ) is a German choral conductor and professor of choral conducting.

Biography

Wolfgang Schäfer studied in Freiburg im Breisgau school music, voice and choral conducting and orchestral conducting in Stuttgart. From 1971 to 1982 he taught at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, 1982-2008 he was professor of choral conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main ( HfMDK ) and from 1982 to 1997 as the successor to Kurt Thomas and Helmuth Rilling also conductor of the Frankfurter Kantorei. In 1971 he founded the Freiburg vocal ensemble; Since 2008, he also chairs the newly formed Frankfurt Chamber Choir, composed of graduates of the University substantially. Wolfgang Schäfer is also artistic director of the annual festivals and choir seminar " Staufener Music Week "; In addition, he has been active as a guest conductor, adjudicator and lecturer. Since his student days in Freiburg finally Shepherd is a member of the musical cabaret Bosart trio.
