Wolfgang Seguin

Wolfgang " Paule " Seguin ( born September 14, 1945 in Burg, near Magdeburg ) was soccer player in the DDR - Oberliga, the highest East German football class, and played there for the SC structure / 1 FC Magdeburg. He was three times GDR champion and won five times the GDR football trophy. In 1974, he stood in the FCM team that won the European Cup Winners' Cup. In the senior team, he completed 21 Matches. With the Olympic team in 1972, he won the bronze medal.

The SC structure and 1.FC Magdeburg

Seguin is the Magdeburg club owned by two not be beat for records: He completed 380 operations, the most games in the DDR Oberliga for Magdeburg and was used 1971-1979 without interruption in 219 league games.

Had begun Seguins football career in 1953 at the BSG unit in his hometown of Burg, near Magdeburg. Up to and including the 1972/73 season Seguin had also contested 14 of the 16 European matches of Magdeburg. After the Cup win of 1973, the first FC Magdeburg launched its most successful European campaign, which he crowned with winning the Cup with a 2-0 victory over AC Milan. Seguin was in all the latest games here and made the finals on May 8, 1974 he scored the 2-0 success perfectly. With his last European Cup match on 22 October 1980 at the UEFA Cup final against AC Torino (1:3) Seguin has completed a total of 57 European Cup games, another FCM record, which previously could not be surpassed.

After his series was interrupted by 219 point league games in 1979, where he was two more times GDR champion, denied Seguin 1980/81 his last league season for the FCM, in which he came again in 14 point games used. In addition to his 380 league games point he came in 23 East German league games, 69 national and 57 European Cup games used, so add up his duty games on 529 missions. In these games, he scored a total 64 goals. Following his Oberliga time Seguin was from 1981 to 1986 player-manager of the fourth-rate BSG Motor Mitte Magdeburg, which he helped to promotion to the County League in 1982.

International selection player

His first international match played Seguin on October 6, 1963 with the Junior National Team along with his teammate Manfred Zapf and with his later appearance in the senior national team Jürgen Croy, Harald Irmscher, Horst Wruck and Rainer Schlutter. Overall, Seguin was four times used in the junior national team. This was followed 1965-1969 in six games with the junior national team. At his first senior international Seguin came on 27 May 1972 in the encounter DDR - Uruguay ( 1-0). In September of the same year Seguin played four games with the East German Olympic team in the final tournament of the Olympic Games in Munich. He was also the small final, in which the GDR together with the Soviet Union after a 2-2 won the bronze medal. With the senior team Seguin played a total of 21 games. He belonged to the squad of the East German national team at the World Cup in 1974 and was used in the preliminary round match against Chile. His last international match took place on September 3, 1975 in Moscow against the Soviet Union instead of (0-0 ). From these games, Seguin won 13 matches, five times he played in a draw, and only three times he was a loser from the square. Since it was used as a midfielder, he was no scoring.

Outside of the playing field

Even during his playing days Seguin completed a degree in mechanical engineering. After ending his career as an active football player Seguin was site manager at Magdeburg Heinrich Germer Stadium. After German reunification, Seguin settled in Stendal. To continue to be secured professionally, he graduated in Lower Saxony retraining as a building cleaner and opened later in Magdeburg, a building and window cleaning company that he built into a thriving company with a three-digit number of employees. With his company sponsored Seguin long time 1.FC Magdeburg, ended his engagement but when he was not awarded the contract for the cleaning works for the new stadium in Magdeburg.
