Wolthausen is a district of the municipality Winsen ( Aller) in Lower Saxony, Celle district, which lies on the Örtze and was formerly decisively influenced by this river.

History

From the 16th century until 1960 drove here Örtze the water wheel of a mill now. Today runs alongside the water wheel, a turbine generator to produce electricity. A fish ladder bypasses this defense, with eight levels, approximately 1 m wide and about 24 m long, suitable for invertebrate critters, was completed in August 2012.

To regulate the Örtzewassers, for the purpose of preventing the flooding of meadows and pastures, a weir of a total of 4.88 m internal diameter was born in 1872, just south of Wolthusen built. A Umflutkanal with a length of 2160 m bridged a river length of approximately 6500 m. The area affected by the regulation covers approximately 108 ha two canal bridges opened up the channel behind the meadows and pastures. On May 15, 1896, the " Free Örtze -channel cooperative" was founded with headquarters in Wolthausen. In 1963 it was decided to provide an irrigation. The dilapidated weir but was again repaired in 1964. The cooperative was dissolved in 1974.
