Womelsdorf is a city in the western part of Berks County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania with about 2,600 inhabitants (as of 2000).

History

The foundation stone of the city's foundation was laid by John Womelsdorf in 1762. The city was originally named Middletown. In 1774 it was renamed. John Womelsdorf was the eldest son of Daniel Womelsdorf. He came from Diedenshausen in Wittgenstein district. He reached Philadelphia 1724. On November 13, 1793 George Washington visited the city. He was informed about the progress in the sewer. 1833 lived 750 people in Womelsdorf.
