Women's Health Initiative

The U.S. Women's Health Initiative ( engl. Women's Health Initiative, abbreviated as GHI ) was launched by the National Institutes of Health launched in 1992. The aim of the initiative was to conduct medical research in the core areas of health problems of older women. Among other things, clinical trials are designed and financed, explore the cardiovascular disease, cancer and osteoporosis. A total of 625 million U.S. dollars have been spent and 160,000 women recruited as study participants. The estrogen plus progestin study (E P) was stopped prematurely in 2002, as the risks exceeded the benefits of postmenopausal therapy, in particular, there was an increased risk of cardiovascular complications and breast cancer.
