Woodside is a town with about 5,000 inhabitants in Santa Clara Valley ( Silicon Valley ), 18 km south of San Francisco and 22 km north of San Jose, and about 550 km north- west of Los Angeles in California, USA, located. Woodside is part of San Mateo County and is located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

History

Long before the Europeans came to explore this area of ​​California and settle, this was home to the Ohlone - Costanoan and Indians. Along the streams and wooded valleys, the fresh water of the mountains, the mild climate and the nearby sea, these natives had plenty of food available.

1769 landed a group of researchers, led by Gaspar de Portolà at the bay of San Francisco and camped near the present-day Woodside. 1822 Mexico became independent of Spain and the Spanish land grants, including the area of present-day California was one of those days, went into private hands. The first English-speaking colonists from Woodside were about 1830 William Smith, a fur trader from Oregon, John Cooper and James Pease and Charles Brown. They all have built their first houses and Charles Brown built a sawmill and put 1839 adobe forth. 1849 came Dr. Robert Orville Tripp, a dentist, in this small village and started his own practice. Gradually this changed the character of the valley. The saw mills were replaced by farms, cattle ranches and small vineyards. In the 1880s, wealthy families of San Francisco began to build their country seat here.
